Hypnosis is simply a state of mind in which your concentration and thoughts become focussed. Hypnotherapy uses this state for positive benefit. There are many different types of hypnosis, and you may have seen stage hypnotists on TV. Please be reassured that hypnotherapy is quite different. My aim is to work with you to focus your mind in order to help you understand how your unconscious thoughts and feelings may be influencing your life - and if necessary to help you to change these for your benefit.
This is achieved by using a relaxed state in which you remain alert, aware of your surroundings, and can converse quite easily. Without realising it you have probably been in the state of hypnosis many times in your life - think of a good book or film that captured your attention - that's what hypnosis is like.
Some clients are disappointed that they are not going to fall asleep in the session! Being asleep is not our goal - but neither is it important to be in a deep trance for our therapy to be successful.
Between July 2008 and July 2009 the IAPH carried out a national survey of a cross section of former clients who had completed a course of our therapy. To view a summary of the results please click this text.
